Okay, disclaimer. I am not a certified make-up artist. I am just a woman that likes to put colorful things on my face in an aesthetically (sometimes not aesthetically) pleasing manner. I went on a kick recently on trying to find the best makeup books and I came across this book. The Color Theory for the Make-Up Artist. Its a short, small sweet book filled with so much information. Honestly when I first grabbed it I wasnt sure how much information it could provide, but provide it did. It goes into detail the colour wheel (those who took art classes should be familiar with the colour wheel)
It talked about where our colours for makeup originate from (like carmine coming from beetles etc.)
It went into shading and complimentary colours. It was a fascinating read but I could not take any of the information in (mostly because I didn’t have a colour wheel and they suggested that you have one for this to be comprehensive for you).
Its a great book if you want to quickly go over colour theory but there are also a ton of tutorials found online to help if you are looking for information on how to create pleasing make-up looks.
Or you can do what I do. Throw makeup on your face and hope it looks nice. 🙂
